I have always been a believer of making learning as concrete possible. I am a visual learner and always find that when someone shows me how to do something works better then telling me. I can read about strategies but seeing them demonstrated is better. The gradual release of responsibility model is very helpful to use when planning out your lesson. Following the steps of teacher modeling, guided practice during the lesson, guided practice beyond the lesson, independent practice and application. In this chapter she gives clear examples of how to do each step. It seems like a lot of work, but I think this would eventually become second nature. I want to make an effort to follow this plan and see if I can do it.
