This is a great book to read in the summer as I think about setting up my learning space for next year. Should I organize my books and materials differently? What do I want to put up on the walls? How will my classroom say, "Come learn with us?"
Eek - it's August already! In Chapter 1, I love the way Debbie Miller has everything organized and authentic. I wish we had bigger 1st grade classrooms! FYI - in case you haven't seen Debbie Diller's book - Spaces and Places (I think it's called) it has fabulous ideas - a couple of us have it if you'd like to see it. I hope you're having a great summer.
I re-read this chapter since we started this book last year and it helps me think about my room when setting up. I love the book jenny mentioned by Debbie Diller also. It has loads of pictures of actual classroom that help you get ideas. I love being organized and so this chapter was right along my alley. I do wish we had bigger rooms and not that big wall of extra cubbies that takes up a fourth of our rooms. My dream classroom would have more spaces that were inviting and geared to kid centered learning areas and we can't do that in these rooms.
